Mountain, Moon, Planet

31 Jan

As we were heading home from our regular Tuesday night quiz I caught a glimpse of the sky doing something interesting.  Unfortunately the photo isn’t amazing, there was a bit too much street light interference but any shot is better than no shot.©2017 Cathy Craig

When I turned around there was a view of the Casino that I had not seen before.  This angle might need some further exploration with my other camera.

Hay Bales

30 Jan

We’ve been enjoying our view for a little over 21 years, and in that time we have seen some interesting changes in farming.  We have watched the crops vary to include opium poppies and grapes.  We have seen the influx of huge round irrigators.  This year it seems that large round hay bales are the latest.

Bees

29 Jan

Pottering in the garden this afternoon and I noticed the leek flowers were covered in bumble bees.  After a quick dash inside for the camera I came back to find only one bumble bee left, but plenty of honey bees.  These are the best shots, with both my 12-40 zoom and my 60mm macro.  I’m loving the detail I was able to capture.

Blocking

28 Jan

Finished is better than Perfect.

When knitting a shawl the final task is blocking.  This involves soaking the shawl and then stretching it out to dry.  It allows the work to relax into shape and for any lacework to open up.  These photos show the benefit of blocking, this shawl has ‘grown’ to almost twice the size it was straight off the needles.

Pruning bush style

27 Jan

Today I watched the neighbours trim their tree near our power line.  It’s not pretty.

It’s MINE!

26 Jan

My Baby Bear is packing up to head back off to Uni today.  Her cat was not so happy to see his play tunnel folded up and proceeded to pounce on it.  A quick moment photo, no time for getting focus point right, just point and shoot and trust the camera.

Works in Progress

25 Jan

As anyone who does anything creative will know, we never just work on one thing at a time.  There are always WIP’s on the go.  Here are two of mine.

Auditioning Buttons

24 Jan

The theme of this blog is Finished is Better than Perfect, something that certainly hit home today.  A cardigan for a niece in Canberra is almost finished (finally) it just needs the (perfect) buttons.  As anyone who has ever dabbled in knitting, sewing, crochet, quilting, embroidery in fact any creative art will know, there is always a button stash.  The biggest issue is usually finding enough of the ‘right’ button.  As the photos will attest, I might have found the ‘perfect’ button but I need 4 and only have 3. Which do you prefer?

Cheese Puffs

Wow, how easy are these to make, and how delicious.  Gotta love cooking.

We are Sailing…..

22 Jan

Today we spent a very pleasant day sailing on the Derwent River.  A friend has a yacht and while it’s usually ‘the boys’ who go and play, today I got an invite.  There were many great moments, so it’s hard to choose just a few for here.

The first was a group of seals that were just floating in the water with one flipper in the air.  They were not at all worried as we sailed past.

One even appeared to roll over and wave at us.

Then as we were heading home we got a close look at the Eye of the Wind.
