A day later

5 Feb

It’s interesting just how much difference a day can make.  Same view as yesterday, but a completely different light show.  I did try to grab a time lapse, but in my haste I put the focus point on the sky and the camera didn’t always focus.  Another step on the learning curve.

Capturing Colour

14 Jan

Todays experiment is about trying to capture accurate colour reproduction on a new knitting project.

These photos are based on changing two settings on the Olympus OMD em5-2.  One is white balance and the other is picture mode (natural and i-enhance).  The first two are wrong.  Interestingly, the last photo is the closest as far as the pink colour, however, the third photo is the one that appeals to my sense of ‘right’.   So there is more to colour than reproducing an exact representation of real life it seems.

Macro Depth of Field

2 Jan

A quiet few minutes today gave me a chance to experiment with depth of field on the 60mm Macro lens.  The first shot is at f14 and the second is f6.3, this is something I would like to explore further.

Star Trails

7 Oct

I’ve wanted to try my hand at capturing star trails for a while now.  The timing has just never been right.  Tonight we got a message from a friend saying the Southern Lights were shining.  Being quicker to the tripod I got first dibs and this is one of the images I captured.

Let it Snow

3 Aug

For the last week there has been the promise of snow today.  The predictions varied depending on which ‘expert’ you listened to – the media hounds and those who wish they were forecasters and the experienced staff from the Bureau of Meteorology @BOM_Tas  Either way the chances were looking good at waking to a winter wonderland at our home.

At 5am a sneak peak in the cold proved that snow had indeed fallen and the temperature sure felt like the chances were good it would still be there at daybreak.

By the time I decided to brave the snow well rugged in two woolly jumpers and my ugg boots I found plenty of white fluff to photograph.

I don’t think we will be sitting on the deck having a bar-be-que today.

The outdoor table had a lovely coating of white.  Mumma Bear and Baby Bear paw prints, oh my how much Baby Bear has grown.

I’ve taken similar shots to this in the past with frost on the railing.

Seems someone is happy to see the fluffy white stuff.

Trying to capture snow falling and a neutral density filter.  The first time using the filter, so I’m only guessing at settings.

It was snowing in this panorama.  The sun is out now and the snow is melting as I type.

Blue Moon

31 Jul

As I drove home tonight across the river I noticed a photo op with the moon reflecting off the river.  It would have been better if I’d had a tripod and a coat.  but this is what I could do hand-held.

Panda Pics

24 Jul

Today we went to Ocean Park.  Some of us may have enjoyed rides on rollercoasters.  Some of us were content to keep our feet on the ground and take pics of the Panda.
