Let it Snow

3 Aug

For the last week there has been the promise of snow today.  The predictions varied depending on which ‘expert’ you listened to – the media hounds and those who wish they were forecasters and the experienced staff from the Bureau of Meteorology @BOM_Tas  Either way the chances were looking good at waking to a winter wonderland at our home.

At 5am a sneak peak in the cold proved that snow had indeed fallen and the temperature sure felt like the chances were good it would still be there at daybreak.

By the time I decided to brave the snow well rugged in two woolly jumpers and my ugg boots I found plenty of white fluff to photograph.

I don’t think we will be sitting on the deck having a bar-be-que today.

The outdoor table had a lovely coating of white.  Mumma Bear and Baby Bear paw prints, oh my how much Baby Bear has grown.

I’ve taken similar shots to this in the past with frost on the railing.

Seems someone is happy to see the fluffy white stuff.

Trying to capture snow falling and a neutral density filter.  The first time using the filter, so I’m only guessing at settings.

It was snowing in this panorama.  The sun is out now and the snow is melting as I type.

Camera on Hand

10 Jul

The best camera is always the one you have with you, or that’s the saying.  So with that thought in mind as I left work yesterday rather than lament a missed shot, I caught what I could on my iPhone, thinking to myself I really should at least have my camera in the car in future.

I thought I would give the iPhone pano a go.  Not sure I like it, but the captured shot is better than the missed.IMG_1120

A cold start to the day

8 Jul

According to the nearby weather station this mornings temperature was -2 and the apparent temp was -6, no wonder my fingers and toes were chilly, but it did make for a heavy frost and ‘cool’ photos.

This was the view from the front door looking towards the sun rise.  The joy of being above the fog line is something that I appreciate even more these days when I have my camera in hand.

This is from the back deck beside our barbecue.  We usually lean on this rail and enjoy a cold beverage or two.  This morning the beverage of choice would have been hot.

I particularly liked the way the frost has started to melt on one of our cars.

Cold Morning Sunrise

3 Jul

It was a wee bit chilly this morning.  Chilly enough that I had on a jumper and coat and was wishing for some gloves.  But winter mornings do see some great sunrises.

EOFY Sunset Celebration

30 Jun

I am having a lot of fun exploring the new panorama setting in LightRoom.  If I see a scene that appeals I just real off some shots confident that I can stitch them together later to portray what my eye saw.

I can see

24 Jun

We had roller shutters installed today.  This means no more blinds blocking my view so I can watch the sunsets from the comfort of the lounge.

Another sunset panorama

19 Jun

I have a view of the sunset that just keeps on giving.  A quick shoot, all handheld right at the tail end of the show.
